Isopropanolamines include monoisopropanolamine (MIPA), diisopropanolamine (DIPA) and triisopropanolamine (TIPA). Isopropanolamines are used in a wide array of applications, including gas purification, personal care products, cosmetic formulations, corrosion inhibitors and metalworking fluids, and as emulsifiers, dispersants and wetting agents. Consumption of isopropanolamines in the United States is fairly mature and will grow at an average annual rate of 1.8% through 2012. In Western Europe, consumption is projected to grow at an average annual rate of approximately 2%. In Asia, consumption is forecast to grow at an average annual rate of 5–6%, driven by increasing use in the developing regions. Overall, global consumption of isopropanolamines will grow at an average annual rate of 3% during 2007–2012.
The following pie chart shows world consumption of isopropanolamines:

Isopropanolamines are primarily produced in the United States and Western Europe. As of mid-2008, production of isopropanolamines in other regions is typically lower-grade product and/or an unbalanced product mix.
