Process Economics Program Report 106
Published: Nov-76
This report concerns the three largest volume nonessential and essential amino acids* in commercial production, namely, glutamic acid (and its monosodium salt), L-lysine, and DL-methionine. For glutamic acid and L-lysine, both fermentation and chemical synthesis processes are included, even though the chemical synthesis process is currently not used commercially. For DL-methionine, only the chemical synthesis process is evaluated because no fermentation process is used and none is likely to be developed in the near future. The production of the calcium salt of the methionine hydroxy analogue is also evaluated in this report.
