This report includes our evaluation for the first time
of the new Nitto Fe-Sb catalyst and the PCUK (Produits Chimiques Ugine Kuhlmann)
technology that uses an Sb-Sn catalyst. Also, we evaluated an updated design
based on Sohio technology that uses an Fe-Bi catalyst. This latter work was
done in the light of improved information that has become available to the Process
Economics Program (PEP) since our 1973 interim report (Report 17A3). Although
we did not make an economic evaluation of the UOP-Montedison technology in the
current report, a fairly detailed description of the process is included.
