Process Economics Program Report 79
Published: Sep-72
This report describes the technology and economics-of manufacturing the threedihydroxybenzenes:
m-Dihydroxybenzene 1,3-benzenediolResorcinol
p-Dihydroxybenzene, 1,4-benzenediolHydroquinone
o-Dihydroxybenzene; 1,2- Pyrocatechol, catechol
These three products are industrial chemicals with such
diverse end uses as resins for tire manufacture and wood lamination; developing
agents for photography: and inhibitors and antioxidants for unsaturated monomers,
plastics, and rubber. The dihydroxybenzenes are made in small volume by complex
processes and consequently command high unit prices.
