Process Economics Program Report 70B
Published: Jul-78
This supplementary report presents updated technical and economic information on two processes, and new information on a third process for producing monoethylene glycol (EG):
- EG from Ethylene via Ethylene Oxide. This is the conventional
method by which most EG is made at present. Information in PEP Report 70A
is updated.
- EG from Ethylene via Glycol Esters. An updated design
and economic study, superceding that in PEP Report 70A, is presented, on the
basis of using Halcon catalysts.
- EG from Ethylene by Direct Oxidation. A process for
oxidation of ethylene directly to EG is evaluated. This is SRI International's
first evaluation of this process. The evaluation is based on the use of a
Teijin catalyst.
