covered in the report include:
-
An
overview of the FPD industry—technologies, world
demand, world production
-
An
analysis of the FPD chemicals industry
-
Profiles
of key chemical manufacturers
-
An
overview of Research and Development in the FPD and
materials industries including government programs
worldwide
-
An
analysis of market trends and strategies key to those
participating in this market
“Flat
Panel Displays are experiencing explosive growth due to
the increasing number of consumer and commercial products
that are using this technology,” said Bob Davenport,
Director of Development at SRIC and one of several co-authors
of the report. “In addition to cell phones,
PDAs, televisions, cameras, electronic games and other
consumer products, FPDs are increasingly being used as
instrumentation screens for the automotive, aviation, banking
and medical industries, as well as a variety of other commercial
uses.”
Davenport
said the estimated $65 billion global market size for FPDs
is expected to have an annual growth rate of at least 10%
and could exceed $115 billion by
2010. The FPD chemicals/materials segment of that
market was valued at $20 billion in 2004 and is expected
to approach $46 billion by 2010. Although it is truly
a global market, 98% of FPDs are produced in East Asia. For
that reason, a significant part of the report was done
by SRIC’s Tokyo office in collaboration with SRIC’s
Beijing, European and U.S. offices.
The report
analyzes the three major technologies that make up the
FPD market—Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), Plasma
Display Panels (PDPs), and Organic Light Emitting Diodes
(OLEDs). Particular emphasis is given to the factors
that will differentiate technologies over the next decade.
The report
covers more than 35 chemical and material using components
under six broad categories: 1) Substrates 2) Optical Films
3) Electrode Materials 4) Light Emitting Materials 5) Processing
Chemicals, and 6) Other chemicals/materials.
“This
is a very valuable strategic planning tool for any organization
that is involved with the many industries supplying or
using FPDs,” Davenport emphasized.
