Abstract

Global production and consumption of acrylic fibers in 2007 was approximately 2.6 million metric tons.  Global capacity utilization was 82% in 2007; this was a slight decline from 2006 due to a larger increase in capacity than consumption.  Global acrylic fibers consumption is estimated to have increased by only 1.6% in 2007 from 2006, and is expected to increase by 1.9% per year from 2007 to 2012, declining to 1.5% per year from 2012 to 2017.  Average global utilization rates are expected to remain in the high-70s to mid-80s range.

Apparel uses accounted for almost 54% of global acrylic fibers consumption in 2007.  Other applications include industrial uses and home furnishings.
