WP Report Dimethyl Terephthalate (DMT) This World Petrochemical (WP) report on DMT contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections.  The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 85 pages.  There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce DMT, as well as capacities for derivative products. Published January 2008                                                      WP Home   |    View Report     |    Purchase  |    View Sample Report  Abstract Global production and consumption of DMT in 2007 was approximately 2.6 million metric tons.  Global capacity utilization was only 70% in 2007.  Global DMT consumption is estimated to have decreased by 1.2% in 2007 from 2006, but is expected to increase on average by 0.5% per year from 2007 to 2012, and then decrease on average 1.0% per year from 2012 to 2017.  Average global utilization rates will remain in the high-70s to low-80s range during the forecast period. PET melt production accounted for almost 76% of global DMT consumption in 2007, although DMT has lost and will continue to lose significant market share to terephthalic acid (TPA) in PET melt manufacturing.  DMT is also used as feedstock for CHDM and polybutylene terephthalate.
