Diphenylmethane Diisocyanate (MDI)

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on MDI contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 110 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce MDI, as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of MDI in 2009 were each approximately 3.6 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 65.5% in 2009, a considerable decline from 2008 due to an increase in capacity combined with a decline in consumption. Global MDI consumption is estimated to have decreased by 6.8% in 2009 from 2008; consumption is expected to average growth of almost 8% per year from 2009 to 2014, slowing to 3.6% per year from 2014 to 2019. Average global utilization rates are expected to range between the low-70s range to high-80s range throughout the forecast period.

Polyurethane resins make up approximately 86% of total MDI consumption.
