WP Report Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE) This World Petrochemical (WP) report on MTBE contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections.  The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 130 pages.  There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce MTBE, as well as capacities for derivative products. Published January 2008                                                      WP Home   |    View Report     |    Purchase    |    View Sample Report  Abstract Global production and consumption of MTBE in 2007 was almost 15 million metric tons.  Global capacity utilization was 78% in 2007.  Global MTBE consumption is estimated to have decreased by 6.2% in 2007, and is expected to further decrease on average by 1.6% per year from 2007 to 2012, and by 1.0% per year from 2012 to 2017.  Depending on how much MTBE capacity is shut down in the future due to decreasing demand, operating rates may remain in the low to mid-80s range in the forecast period. Gasoline blending (oxygenate) accounted for over 95% of global MTBE consumption in 2007.  Other applications include isobutylene for MMA and for other uses.
