Abstract

Global consumption of nylon fibers in 2007 was approximately 4.4 million metric tons.  Global capacity utilization was 68% in 2007; this was a slight increase from 2006.  Global nylon fibers consumption is estimated to have increased by almost 1% in 2007, and is expected to increase by 4.1% per year from 2007 to 2012, declining to 2.2% per year from 2012 to 2017.  Average global utilization rates are expected to remain in the mid to upper-70s range through the forecast period.

Nylon 6 fibers accounted for almost 55% of total global nylon fibers consumption in 2007, followed by nylon 66 fibers with 29% of total consumption with the balance being unspecified nylon fibers.
