Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on PET, Melt Phase contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. Abstract

Global production and consumption of PET melt in 2007 was approximately 46 million metric tons.  Global capacity utilization was 76% in 2007.  Global PET melt consumption is estimated to have increased by 6.7% in 2007, and is expected to increase on average by 5.1% per year from 2007 to 2012, declining to 4.1% per year from 2012 to 2017.  Average global utilization rates are expected to gradually increase to 80% by 2012, continuing to increase thereafter.

Polyester fibers accounted for 64% of global PET melt consumption in 2007, followed by PET bottle resins with 31% of total consumption.  Other applications include polyester film and polyester engineering resins.
