Abstract
Global production and consumption of p-Xylene in 2007 was approximately 27 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 93% in 2007; this was an increase from 2006. Global p-Xylene consumption is estimated to have increased by almost 10% in 2007, and is expected to increase by 4.8% per year from 2007 to 2012, declining to 3.9% per year from 2012 to 2017. As a result of considerable capacity additions in the next few years, utilization rates are expected to decline to 80% by 2011, gradually increasing thereafter.
Terephthalic acid accounted for 94% of global p-Xylene consumption in 2007. Other applications include dimethyl terephthalate.
