Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI)

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on TDI contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 110 pages.  There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce TDI as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of TDI in 2007 was approximately 1.6 million metric tons.  Global capacity utilization was 82% in 2007; this was an increase from 2006 as a result of an increase in consumption with no increase in capacity.  Global TDI consumption is estimated to have increased by 5.5% in 2007, and is expected to increase by 5.7% per year from 2007 to 2012, declining to 3.4% per year from 2012 to 2017.  As a result of considerable capacity additions in the next few years, utilization rates are expected to decline to the mid-70s range by 2010, gradually increasing thereafter.

Polyurethane foams accounted for almost 77% of global TDI consumption in 2007, followed by other polyurethanes with 13% of total consumption.
