Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM)

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on VCM contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 190 pages.  There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce VCM as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of VCM in 2007 was almost 36 million metric tons.  Global capacity utilization was 88% in 2007; this was a slight decline from 2006 due to a larger increase in capacity than consumption.  Global VCM consumption is estimated to have increased by 2.8% in 2007, and is expected to increase by 3.9% per year from 2007 to 2012, declining to 2.8% per year from 2012 to 2017.  Average global utilization rates are expected to increase gradually to the low-90s range by the end of the forecast period.

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) accounted for over 99% of global VCM consumption in 2007.  Another small use for VCM is as a copolymer with other monomers such as vinyl acetate; these polymers are mainly used in surface coatings.
